March 18, 2008 --- If you dream of the
days of Hammer pants and the dramatic crusades of a certain group of Beverly Hills teens, then you are officially a fan of
the 90’s and you will love the latest game to rock the SingStar™ franchise, SingStar™ 90’s, developed
exclusively for PlayStation® 2 and launching this week.
Available
as a standalone disc or packaged with two high-quality USB microphones, SingStar 90’s delivers a mix of decade-defining
tunes and music videos from your favorite 90’s artists including Paula Abdul, Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Nirvana, Boyz
II Men and more. As the fifth installment in the series, the franchise now offers 150 hit songs that players can tap into
via the disk swap feature to access tracks from SingStar™ Rocks, SingStar™ Pop, SingStar™ 80’s, or
SingStar™ Amped.
EDITOR NOTES:
Buried in one line on the back of the packaging, you'll find one of the game's
most important features: Eye Toy compatibility. While you can record yourself as the star of the music videos, one player
playback sound is pretty evenly mixed with the actual star singer, so sometimes it's really hard to critique your
own voice. You never know how you really sound until you hear a recording, so SingStar doesn't really help you there.
Artists include New Kids on the Block, En Vogue, Vanilla Ice, Boyz II Men, Soundgarden,
Nirvana, MC Hammer, and Divinyls. Perhaps most recognizable are songs "I Wanna Sex You Up," "Right Here Right Now,"
"U Can't Touch This," "Opposites Attract," "Everybody Hurts," "Baby Got Back," and "Ice Ice Baby."
The game has several multiplayer karaoke modes as well as the ability to just play
by yourself and get rated. The franchise recently received a NAViGaTR nomination for Outstanding Song Sollection.
